Daddy Funk Drums is endorsed as an educator by Yamaha Drums, Istanbul agop Cymbals and Los Cabos Drumstick (in association with BR Distribution in the UK). Watch the short video for more info, then continue reading to find out why learning with Daddy Funk Drums is a unique, creative and forward thinking experience that can enhance your prospects as a musician.
Many of Daddy Funk’s students have gone on to be professional drummers. Some are on tour right now, in signed bands touring both the USA and Japan. Others have become professional teachers themselves. Having developed such a passion for playing they now teach in schools, colleges and universities.
Unlike so many music (particularly drum) teachers in the Highlands area, you don’t have to do ‘Rock School’ and there are no exams to take. Let your creativity run free in at least one area of your life!
This system is entirely individual to Daddy Funk Drums, and established as a method of training developed with students and used since 1995. It focuses on a series of exercises - single paradiddles, double paradiddles, and rudiment composites - which develop each drum students own unique sound within all style genres. Basically you will sound the best you can sound; whatever style that is – you will be treated like an individual and allowed to grow and develop in your own way, at your own pace. You will stand out; and that is how stars are born.
Daddy Funk is an experienced educator. By this, it not only means he can teach you, your child, your grandma or your nephew to hit some skins with some sticks! It also means he has experience working with and teaching all age groups, both sexes and also children and young adults with more specific needs including Asperger’s, Down’s Syndrome and ADHD.
Staying current is something that all musicians must do in order to survive in such a cut throat industry. Daddy Funk, alongside his 'classic influences', has added Manu Katche, Kimberly Thompson, Jo Jo Mayer & Benny Greb to the mix. More recently the mix master of grime/dubstep and northern soul A-Skillz, Larnell Lewis from modern jazzers 'Snarky Puppy' and the hip hop and broken beats of Ahmir Questlove Thompson have been strong influences to both Daddy Funk's playing and teaching.
Staying current keeps you excited about music and fuels the passion he has always felt both playing and teaching. This is what makes something that could be an expensive fad become something worthwhile. And it means whatever your age or personal preference, he can give the same energy and level of expertise to your lesson.
Because it’s fun! Learning to drum with Daddy Funk is an inspirational, creative free fall. Students look forward to their lessons and feel that they are developing and growing; not only as musicians but also as people. Daddy Funk inspires and nurtures confidence within the individual that transcends the ‘job’ he’s paid to do. It's music therapy at its very best!
